Art Week
We studied the work of Lowry and used a range of mediums to recreate impressions of his ‘Matchstick Men’ series. First, we looked at perspective. We learned how to sketch accurately from his picture, showing depth. We learned the words ‘foreground’ and ‘background’. Next we discussed the industrial landscapes he painted of Manchester. We experimented with charcoal and blending to do the roof tops, chimneys and billowing smoke. Although Lowry most often used oil paints, we used watercolours to paint the other half of another of his famous paintings. Lastly, we created our own pictures in Lowry’s unique style of a place we know.
